Thoughtfulness.

"Do you want your towels folded in thirds, or do you want your towels folded?"

There's something you must know about me.

I am extremely slightly anal-retentive/OCD/"move that place-mat over a centimeter to the right if you would please."

I like things in order. I complain when Matt sits ON our couch pillows and makes them smushed. I clean the soap dispenser on a regular basis. I straighten pictures on the wall like it's my job. There are never, NEVER dirty dishes in the sink. I've been known to unload the dishwasher at 5:45 am before work just so I can put my knife in the dishwasher after making toast. The clothes in my closet are organized into categories and colors. Matt cleans the stove top. Which brings me to my next point. Matt puts up with my quest for household perfection exceedingly well. He's a little bit of a clean freak at heart too... And I L-O-V-E it. He may laugh at my quirks, but one thing is for sure. He loves having a neat house and so do I... A match made in heaven!

I've thought a lot about the quote above and how the principle of it relates to marriage. Maybe it's just a fancy way to say, "Pick your battles" or "Don't sweat the small stuff." Personally, I believe it's profound.  I believe it's a charge for us to appreciate our spouses... to be grateful for their thoughtfulness and effort.

Matt goes out of his way to be kind and attentive to the things that matter to me, and I don't say thank you enough. The truth is I am exceedingly grateful. I hope to put forth more effort in the things that matter to him. Whether I'm the perfect Wii partner or not... It's the thought that counts.

In case you haven't heard...

Our beautiful city suffered a horrible flood at the beginning of May.

We've never been more proud to live here. The resilience and spirit of Nashville's people shined bright and the city is close to being back in working order.

The week after the flood, Matt and I went to the Ryman Auditorium (the original Grand Ole Opry) to see the Goo Goo Dolls in concert. We walked around the city prior to the show and saw some of the damage from the flood...

The Cumberland River literally overflowed into downtown. This is Broadway and Second.

And the symphony.

We are so lucky to live on high ground and had no flood damage to our home at all. Some people lost everything... some are still fighting with insurance companies and some are still rebuilding bridges and roads. We are so blessed.
